Hospital staff members in Santa Cruz, California, are feeling grateful after receiving an unexpected gift recently. When an anonymous donor saw how hard employees at Dominican Hospital were working to care for patients and the facility during the coronavirus pandemic, they wanted to show their appreciation, according to a press release. A letter from the longtime friend of the hospital read: To the heroes of Dominican Hospital: Thank you for standing up (and staying up! ) to care for our community. This humankindness is what makes you heroic. Please accept this donation in recognition of and with great thanks for all that you do. And please know that my heart is with you as we seek to protect and care for each other during this challenging time. Attached to the letter was a $1 million donation, made through the Dominican Hospital Foundation. The gift was designated for employees who have worked at the hospital for at least a year which included nurses, cleaning staff, lab techs, medical records, mailroom staff, and security guards, according to the Associated Press (AP).

The airport said the machines use UV rays to kill viruses and bacteria at night. It is also using UV technology to continuously disinfect moving handrails, and coating surfaces such as security trays, lift buttons and trolley handles with a material providing long-lasting anti-viral protection. Ultraviolet robots (pictured) which kill viruses and bacteria overnight are being used at London Heathrow airport Around 100 airport workers are being retrained to serve as hygiene technicians to boost cleaning and answer passenger queries on the methods being used. Heathrow has previously introduced screens in security areas and in some shops, made face coverings compulsory and created one-way systems. Just 350, 000 people travelled through the airport last month, down 95% on June 2019, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to limit demand for air travel. The quarantine requirement was lifted for people returning to or visiting the UK from around 75 countries and territories on Friday. The robots have been deployed to encourage more people to travel amid the global coronavirus pandemic Among the robots' tasks is to disinfect moving handrails (pictured) and other services most-used by passengers and customers Other means have also been adopted by Heathrow, including hand sanitation, to improve health and safety in one of the UK's busiest airport Heathrow wants arrivals from countries not on the list to be allowed to avoid self-isolating for 14 days if they pass a coronavirus test on arrival.
Last week, state officials announced a new order prohibiting most nonessential activity outside the home from 10 p. to 5 a. in counties that are in the strictest "purple" tier of the state's color-coded reopening road map. Roughly 94% of Californians — including all those in the southern third of the state — are subject to that order, which lasts until Dec. 21, though it could be extended. "We're hoping that's all we'll need, but we'll see, " Gov. Gavin Newsom said Monday. "We're open minded to the dynamics of the conditions that are changing in real time. " Times staff writers Jaclyn Cosgrove, Alex Wigglesworth, Matt Hamilton and Taryn Luna contributed to this report.
The previous statewide single-day record came just a week earlier, when more than 13, 400 cases were reported on Nov. 16, and in L. County, on Thursday, when nearly 5, 000 cases were recorded. "We've seen alarming steep increases in cases of COVID-19, " said the L. County director of public health, Barbara Ferrer. The Los Angeles County total was inflated by roughly 1, 500 that were part of a reporting backlog from Sunday, but Ferrer said "it's still an impressive and alarming surge. Our problem right now is we have such a high rate of transmission, there are so many people that are infected at this point, that it will take a lot of work to get us back down. " When such a new stay-at-home order will be handed down, or what precise form it will take, is unclear. But Ferrer said "for sure, we're not going back to all of the restrictions that were in place in the original Safer at Home order. " The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to discuss the order at its Tuesday meeting. As COVID spikes, hospitalizations are rising — and more L. County residents are dying at an increasingly rapid pace.
The school has a no-makeup policy The short clip was said to be filmed by a witnessing teacher. He can be heard yelling in the local dialect 'that red eye-shadow is trending this year' when his colleague rubs the face of one student. The video has gone viral on Weibo, China's equivalent to Twitter, sparking a debate on whether or not it is appropriate for students to wear makeup. A poll on the social media platform shows 64 per cent of participants agree with the school's policy. The incident took place in the county of Sansui in China's rural Guizhou province (pictured) One supporter said: 'If they were my children, I would not let them show off and use cosmetics in middle school and high school. ' Another one wrote: 'No makeup should be allowed on campus for students in high school and below. ' A third one commented: 'This teacher is a responsible teacher and deserves our respect. ' But many also criticised the way the school had handled the matter. One typical comment read: 'Students shouldn't use makeup, but the teacher's method is not correct either.
The minister's attorney, Mat Straver, is no fan of the Hillsborough County order, as he says it allows Amazon to operate while forcing churches to shut down. And on top of that, he claims, the church followed social distancing guidelines: "Not only did the church comply with the administrative order regarding six-foot distancing, it went above and beyond any other business to ensure the health and safety of the people. Contrary to Sheriff Chronister's allegation that Pastor Howard-Browne was 'reckless, ' the actions of Hillsborough Country and the Hernando County Sheriff are discriminatory against religion and church gatherings. " But there's more: According to Sheriff Chad Chronister, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies had tried on two occasions to speak to Rodney about the "dangerous environment" services would create. However, Chad claims, they were told by staff that Rodney wouldn't see them. And that he wouldn't cancel Sunday's services. The visitation may have been due to comments the preacher'd made during his March 17th sermon.
