So when the restaurant fell into disrepair following the death of Peter Luger, Sol was faced with the unhappy task of finding another lunch spot for his clients. Instead, he decided to try his luck at the auction of Peter Luger's, and was the only one who did; alone at the auction, Sol was able to purchase the restaurant for the price of the real estate. Soon enough, Sol had Peter Luger's back to its former glory, and it's been on top ever since. Still under Forman family management, the restaurant has been rated the top steakhouse in New York since 1984, has earned itself a Michelin Star, and has joined the ranks of American classics. "Miguelito" by Michael Zelehoski will live at McCarren Park near Union Avenue and Bayard Street from May through October. Michael Zelehoski Sign up for our PoliticsNY newsletter for the latest coverage and to stay informed about the 2021 elections in your district and across NYC A new temporary artwork made from plywood businesses used to board up their windows during last summer's racial justice protests is coming to McCarren Park this spring. The sculpture consists of two entwined wooden obelisks aimed at resembling a caltrop, a spiked metal weapon thrown on the ground during protests, twisting traditional symbols of power into one of popular uprising, according to the artist. "I like the idea of reclaiming those monuments and subverting them in some way, " said Michael Zelehoski. "How do we turn that symbol of power into a symbol of protest? " The Williamsburg artist drew inspiration from seeing demonstrators in Chile making caltrops out of twisted nails to blow up tires of police vehicles when he lived in the South American country in the early aughts, and he named the artwork "Miguelito, " a nickname locals gave to the devices.
The beer starts off light, but has a complex and slightly bitter finish with subtle notes of pineapple. Blackberry Crush 5. 2 percent ABV This German-style wheat beer, known as a Gose, has a deep red, raspberry color, since two pounds of berries are packed in every gallon. The intense berry flavor makes it taste almost like a kombucha disguised as a beer (but without all the sweetness). Talea also serves a raspberry-lime flavored Gose. Raspberry Peach Tart Teco 7. 5 percent ABV A part of Talea's sour IPA series, this aromatic beer has a noticeable raspberry and peach smell and a rusty red color. The fruits come together to form a tart flavor with a rich and creamy texture and a gentle sweetness, which comes from the milk sugar that's added to the beer during the brewing process.
